Up to now, 80 ports totalling 41 million TEUs have reported their monthly throughput figures for September 2019. This shows, with a more regional focus, that the development varies greatly from region to region. In particular, a comparison of this year's figures with those of 2018 illustrates the sometimes quite strong regional and national differences. For instance, total container traffic of the three largest Australian ports in the 3rd quarter of 2019 declined by 10.9% compared with 2018. The positive end of the scale is marked by the ports in the Baltic Sea region, which show a plus of 8.2% year-on-year.
The ten largest Chinese ports achieved a total turnover of 49 million TEU in the third quarter of 2019, corresponding to an increase of 5.2%.
