The event is a specialist forum with national and international speakers. Every two years, the Senator for Science and Ports of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen, together with the Bremen University of Applied Sciences, the Maritime Cluster Northern Germany, bremenports GmbH and other partners, invites to the event.
The speakers also included Professor Dr. Burkhard Lemper, Institute of Shipping Economics and Logistics. Right at the start of the event, he pointed out trends and developments within the global shipping markets, from which, among other things, the economic situation of shipping companies and their ability to invest in sustainable technology can be derived. A highlight of the event was once again the award ceremony of the "greenports Award 2021" hosted by the ports of Bremen. The annual "greenports Awards" honor particularly environmentally friendly ships and shipping companies which approach the ports of Bremen. There are the following two categories: "Lowest emission ship" and "Lowest emission fleet". The awards went to the Dutch feeder ship "Freya" (category lowest-emission ship) and to its shipping company, the Dutch Holwerda Shipmanagement B.V. (category shipping company with lowest-emission fleet).
