The latest edition of the ISL Container Port Monitor shows the different regional dynamics of global cargo traffic.The total container throughput of all observed 92 ports increased in January to 45.4 million TEU, an increase of 6.4% compared to January 2020.
The throughput of the Chinese ports increased by 11.2% between December 2020 and January 2021 and is now 12.7% above the January 2020 level. The ports in the economically important regions of Southeast Asia, the Northeast Asia (excluding China) and the Middle East, on the other hand, were unable to continue the positive developments from the previous month and faced declines in throughput. The leading North Range ports were able to achieve a very satisfactory result with throughput up 6.4% compared with January 2020.
