The latest edition of the ISL Container Port Monitor reveals some interesting aspects regarding global cargo traffic. The total throughput of all 92 ports monitored also declined in December due to seasonal factors: by 2.3% to now 44.1 million TEU. What makes us optimistic, however, is that this is still 5.6% higher than the result for December 2019. The throughput of Chinese ports is shown here as an example. There, the throughput between November and December 2020 decreased 7.2%, while in relation to December of the previous year, an increase of 7.2% was achieved. Only the ports in the regions of Southeast Asia and Southern Europe, and the US West Coast ports even achieved a positive result compared to the previous month.
