HK's ninth Asian Logistics and Maritime Conference opens November 19

SIXTY renowned speakers are expected to address the ninth Asian Logistics and Maritime Conference (ALMC), an annual signature event for the industries jointly organised by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), to be held November 19-20.

The two-day conference themed "Connect and Innovate: Navigating Challenging Times" will focus on three key areas - Asian connectivity, e-commerce customer experience, and logistics technology. More than 60 luminaries from the logistics and maritime sectors will share their insights at the conference to be held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC), the organisers said in a statement.

Key activities include the two plenary sessions. The topic of the plenary on day one of the conference is "Where Opportunity Knocks - Asia Supply Chain Wedged Between Challenging Geopolitics".

"With trade disputes and uncertainties ongoing around the globe, the logistics industry needs to adjust its strategy. A panel of leading logistics service providers and key international economists will share their views on how Asia can catch up and play a larger global role," according to the statement.

The plenary session on the second day is entitled "Keeping the Customer 'King' in the E-commerce Arena". Experts from e-commerce services and express services providers, an online sales platform and an innovative start-up will share their strategies for driving improvements in supply chain management and strengthening customer relationships, in addition to offering forecasts for upcoming industry trends.

A new session, InnoTalks, has been added to the conference this year, inviting experts to discuss the application of new technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), robotics automation and smart supply chains to the logistics industry.

The new MarketTalks session will invite industry representatives from India, Malaysia, the Philippines and Taiwan to share updated market information, helping to shed light on how shippers - especially those engaged in the food and beverage and textile industries - can overcome the difficulties they encounter when conducting overseas trade.

Another new session, Market Clinic, will invite four local logistics associations' representatives, as well as industry elites from Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam, to provide complimentary one-on-one logistics consultation services for participants.

Apart from the plenary sessions, other forums will cover a range of topical issues relating to the airfreight and supply chain management and logistics as well as maritime industries. Topics to be covered include cold-chain logistics, smart logistics, and the digital transformation of airfreight.

Canadian National Railway (CN) will hold a regional forum for the fourth time, discussing the Asian region's seamless collaboration with North American ports and railways.

The Port & Logistics Office of the People's Government of Sichuan Province will hold another regional forum to discuss how intermodal transport can draw the world closer and promote global trade.
